PSP operators are cleaning Lagos at their own expense – LASG

The Lagos State government on Wednesday told a Lagos State High Court sitting at Tafa Balewa Square TBS, that the private waste operators of domestic and commercial wastes in the state who are also known as Private Sector Participants, (PSP) operators, that their continued operation in the state is at their own expense The counsel to the state government Olubukola Adesina said that “The fact that the waste managers are cleaning the state does not mean they have been employed as they are doing so at their own will,” Adsina said that the reason the operators brought the matter to court was to force the contract on the Lagos state government. “You can’t foist a willing party on to a principal.” She further stated that the operators have not been doing their job very well and diligently. Lone Chibok girl escapes from Boko Haram – Femi Adesina

An alleged schoolgirl who was one of those abducted by the Boko Haram in 2014 has escaped from captivity, a presidential aide has told the BBC. The girl was reportedly found by government troops while she was escaping, Femi Adesina said, without giving details. The girl was reportedly one of the 276 girls kidnapped by Boko Haram from Chibok town in 2014, sparking global outrage. A total of 103 of the girls have been released so far, including 82 earlier this month in a prisoner swap. The 82 girls, who met  President Muhammadu Buhari on May 7, are expected to be reunited with their families later this week.

Ex-Bayelsa PDP chairman assassinated

A former Acting State Chairman of Peoples Democratic Party, Bayelsa State, Mr. Christopher Hobobo, has been assassinated. He was reportedly assassinated in his residence on PDP Road, Yenagoa, the state capital. Hobobo, who hailed from Agbere town in Sagbama Local Government Area of the state was allegedly stabbed to death by unknown assassins in the early hours of Wednesday. The assassination of Hobobo is coming within one month after a similar assassination of a Yenagoa-based broadcast journalist, Mr. Famous Giobaro. Hobobo’s gate was forced open by the assailants before gaining access to his sitting room, where they allegedly stabbed him several times in the chest. Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed has debunked media reports credited to him that the Presidency is still confused about who would assent to the 2017 budget even with Acting President Yemi Osinbajo in charge of the country’s affairs. Media reports had quoted the Minister as saying that the presidency is still unsure of who will assent to the budget as well as swearing-in of two Ministers-designate. However, speaking with our correspondent, the Minister denies the claim. THE Presidency is to take a decision on who signs the 2017 Appropriation Bill into law whenever the document is transmitted to it for accent, Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed has said. Acting President Yemi Osinbajo, was expected to sign the document following the letter written by President Muhammadu Buhari to the National Assembly in compliance with Section 145 of the Nigerian Constitution apprising the legislature of his decision to proceed on medical leave. Whistleblowers arrested for giving false information to the EFCC

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Tuesday, May 16, 2017 arraigned the duo of Buhari. Fannami and Ba-Kura Abdullahi on two separate one count charge before Justice M. T Salihu of the Federal High Court Maiduguri, for allegedly giving false information to the agency under the whistle blowing policy. Fannamit had misled the EFCC with the information about illegally acquired monies purportedly buried at the residence of one Ba’a Lawan but the information turned out to be false after the execution of a search warrant. The accused person pleaded not guilty to the charge. Counsel to the prosecution Alkassim Ja’afar asked for a trial date and prayed the court to remand the accused person in the prison custody pending trial. Justice Salihu adjourned the matter to June 7 and 8, 2017 for hearing and ordered the accused to be remanded in the prison custody. Police arrest killers of Enugu deputy governor’s orderly

The police in Enugu have arrested the killers of the orderly to the deputy governor, Mrs. Cecilia Ezeilo. The orderly, Sgt Helen Sunday was shot dead last week by unknown gunmen after she was dropped on her way back home by an official car. A police bulletin issued Tuesday by the Enugu police spokesman, Ebere Amaraizu ‎said:”Suspects identified as Emmanuel Onyeabor  and Kanu Oti were picked a day after the incident at their various hideouts of Lomalinda Independence layout axis and Amorji Nike axis of Abakpa in Enugu East Local Government Area after a serious gun duel which left suspects fatally injured and   while some of the gang members escaped with gunshot wounds”.
