Why we need to stop blaming the government and support #BuyMadeInNigeria

Image
Many Nigerians are complaining about the constant fall in the value of the Naira and they blame the Government. But is the government really to blame? In truth, our insatiable appetite for all things foreign is to blame. I always fly Arik Business Class whenever I am traveling abroad except Arik does not fly on that route. Not only is an Arik ticket a fraction of the cost of a British Airways ticket, but the money I pay to Arik circulates in Nigeria and helps firm up the Naira’s value. As I speak to you today, a British Airways Business to London is ₦2,103,666 while Arik Business is ₦551,545 yet our elite still fly BA But though Arik offers an affordable alternative to British Airways and other foreign airlines, our big men prefer to pay double what Arik charges to BA and other foreign airlines for the same services and yet they complain about the value of the Naira. I have Nasco cornflakes and I have eaten Kellogs cornflakes. In terms of nutrition and tas...

Mr David Ahmed Okoro started the day early, having set his alarm clock (MADE IN FINLAND) for 6am. While his teapot (MADE IN CHINA) was perking, he shaved with his clipper (MADE IN HONG KONG). He put on his shirt (MADE IN THE UK), and designer jeans (MADE IN ITALY) and shoes (MADE IN THE USA). After cooking his breakfast in his new electric cooker (MADE IN INDIA) he sat down with his calculator (MADE IN MEXICO) to see how much he could spend today. After setting his wristwatch (MADE IN TAIWAN) to his radio (MADE IN VIETNAM) he got in his car (MADE IN GERMANY) filled with petrol imported from (SAUDI ARABIA) and continued his search for a good paying NIGERIAN job... At the end of yet another discouraging and fruitless day checking his computer (MADE IN MALAYSIA), Mr David Ahmed Okoro decided to relax for a while. He put on his slippers (MADE IN BRAZIL) poured himself a glass of wine (MADE IN SOUTH AFRICA), while fiddling with his mobile phone (MADE IN SOUTH KOREA), and then wonder...

Day 3: #SayNoToChildAbuse

Image
Child abuse can be a single incident, but usually takes place over time (Richardson, 2004). As explained by the women participants in a study by Van Loon and Kralik (2005a): We were told throughout our lives that we were ‘useless’, ‘good for nothing’ and‘undeserving of everything we got’. This was reinforced by ‘betrayal’ from our family and ‘manipulation’ from the perpetrator's who ‘dominated’ us from their position of power and trust, making us feel‘ powerless’, ‘worthless’, ‘ashamed’, ‘guilty’ and ‘to blame somehow’. We were ‘used’ and treated as ‘objects’ or ‘meat’. When other children were developing ‘the‎ building blocks for a strong identity’ and understanding that they were unique and worthwhile, ‘able and OK’. We were ‘stuck’ in a world that taught us ‘we would never amount to anything’. But worse, we still carry the burden of ‘shame’ and ‘guilt’, ‘confusion’ and ‘sadness’ which continually diminishes our ‘self-worth’ and ‘shatters our identity’.‎ Survi...

#SayNoToChildAbuse formally kicks off

Children are gifts from God, there are blessings to humanity! We all used to be kids, but we grew up with lots of opportunities and privileges. These are not seen anymore these days as "Children are now abused" in several different ways. T‎he children, helpless as they are, have been victims to the mistakes of our fathers, mothers, governments and even us (me and you) as individuals. It might interest you to know that Children who experience child abuse and neglect are 59% more likely to be arrested as juveniles, 28% more likely to be arrested as adults, and 30% more likely to commit violent crime. Those are just a few of the many consequences of this menace, and a tip of the iceberg of what is to come if we don't start working to stop it NOW! The campaign is directed towards, the government as they are government agencies that fight against this and it's also to draw the government's attention to this and make them act accordingly, it involves parents to...
