The pronouncement of no more fuel subsidy sparks of being insensitive to the plight of Nigerians - Labour party Lagos
The new crop of political leaders have been admonished to choose their words wisely as in the popular Yoruba proverb that Ọ̀rọ̀ rírọ̀ ni í yọ obì lápò, ọ̀rọ̀ líle nií yọ ọfà lápó when interpreted in English signifies that soft words can pull kolanuts from a pouch, as much as strong words do pull arrows from a quiver.
This admonition came forth from the charismatic caretaker chairman of Labour party in Lagos, Omoba Adesoyin Olumide on Monday via an interview session that was conducted by hon Okufuwa Samad Oluwatoyin the partys public relations officer.
Omoba Adesoyin Olumide denounced the maiden speech by the newly inuagurated APC government led by president Bola Ahmed Tinubu and described the approach and announcement of the cancelation of fuel subsidy as rather harsh, ill-timed and unnecessary.
Furthermore, Omoba Adesoyin Olumide added that as leaders we should understand that the powers inherent in spoken words have to be carefully articulated so as not to abuse or hurt the sensibilities of the populace no matter the good gesture or intention it hopes to achieve either in the short or long run.
Subsequently, Omoba Adesoyin Olumide reminded the APC led government of it's activities and days of organised protests against the then Federal government that was led by the former president Good luck Jonathan against this same fuel subsidy arrangement and wondered what suddenly changed?
Finally, the politician ended his interview by counselling the proponents of the cancellation of the fuel subsidy to take up a more cautious and meticulous approach to properly orientate Nigerians on the merits and demerits of this policy and it's plans towards ameliorating the adverse effect on their lives and general well being.
