Policeman Arrests Eight-year-old Pupil for Reporting Abusive Teacher

An eight-year-old pupil of Prospect Primary School located in Akute, Ogun State was arrested and detained by the Ajuwon Police Division for reporting a teacher in his school.

The schoolboy identified as Oyindamola Onimole was reportedly held by the police between 6pm on Wednesday and 12pm on Thursday, after he reported his teacher identified as Mrs. Oni to his mother.
According to reports, the teacher had maltreated the young boy at school and the child reported the matter to his mother.

The boy’s mother then visited the school to complain about the assault to the authorities.
After the boy’s mother left, the teacher was said to have assaulted the child again for daring to report her to his mother.

The woman then got her husband, who is a policeman,  involved and he stormed the house of the pupil to arrest the minor.

The mother of the boy was notified by neighbours of her son’s ordeal after she returned from work. She headed straight to the police station to request that her son be released and in the process, she was also detained.

Family and friends of both mother and child had to wade in before they were eventually released yesterday at noon.

The boy’s father expressed his outrage at the detention of the minor and stated that he would contact his lawyer to take the matter up.

He also added that he had informed the school proprietor about Mrs. Oni’s alleged misconduct.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi  stated that the incident would be investigated.
