Breaking news: Gunmen abduct Lagos secondary school students from hostel

Armed bandits on Monday night abducted no fewer than three students of the Babington Macaulay Junior Seminary in Ikorodu area of Lagos State. Available information has it that the gunmen stormed the school at about 8pm and took three female students along with them.   The school, located at Agunfoye-Lugbusi village, is owned by the Anglican Communion, Lagos Diocese. The police has confirmed the development. The spokesperson of the Lagos State Police Command, Dolapo Badmus, said detectives have swung into action to secure the release of the girls.   The state Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni, was said to have spent the better part of the night in the school and surrounding bushes and villages in search of the girls.

Buhari to pay N5,000 stipend to extremely poor Nigerians

Nigeria’s Presidency has denied stories that the Muhammadu Buhari administration may have stopped its promise to pay N5,000 stipend to some vulnerable Nigerians as promised by the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, during its electioneering campaign. But Laolu Akande, Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity who spoke to State House Correspondents on Monday was emphatic that the President never promised to pay N5000 to unemployed Nigerians. President Buhari had during a meeting with members of Nigeria community in Saudi Arabia last week reportedly said his priority is not paying N5000 to unemployed Nigerians. The President, according to reports, told his compatriots that he would rather spend such funds on development of infrastructure. Thief Mistakenly Locks Himself Inside Victim’s Car

Detectives attached to the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (FSRAS), Ikeja, Lagos State Police Command, have arrested a burglar, who mistakenly locked himself inside a victim’s car. The suspect, Jamiu Anisoro, used to burgle cars with an iron rod, sharpened and shaped into a key. He burgled a car on premises of Mainland Hotel, Oyingbo, Oto Railway Ebute-Metta and got trapped inside the car, leading to his arrest.  When the car owner came out, he saw Anisoro inside his car and alerted the police. Although the key had opened many car boots and doors, it, however, had a clause. Once it has opened a door, the door would become faulty. The Maroko Police Division in the Lekki area of Lagos State has arrested a self-acclaimed Alfa, Alhaji Ibrahim Ahamido, for allegedly defrauding a trader, Sarah Moses.  We learnt that Ahamido collected N350,000 from Moses, promising to boost her business by turning the money to N5m.  He was, however, alleged to have fled with the money, after giving his girlfriend, Hawa Musa, N100,000 to “renew their love”.    A source explained that the victim had been introduced to Ahamido sometime in December, 2015, in a restaurant in Lekki.  Ahamido was said to have boasted special powers that could make him multiply money after prayers.  The source said, “The woman initially did not believe.  A teenager, who was allegedly kidnapped from Bayelsa State to Kano, Ese Oruru, said on Monday she was not interested in reuniting with her family, denying reports that she was abducted from her home in Bayelsa State. In an exclusive audio recording obtained by us on Monday, the girl also said she eloped with her lover to Kano in order to convert to Islam.    ''My name is Aisha Chuwas. I am 17-year-old. I came here to be a Muslim and I will stay here.'' She said in the audio. The recording appeared a conversation between Miss Oruru and a police interrogator in Kano. The Oyo State Police Command on Monday paraded a suspected ritualist, whose name was given as Kamoru Oladele for being in possession of human head. Briefing journalist at the state police headquarters in Eleyele, Ibadan on its activities in February, the Commissioner of police in the state, Mr. Leye Oyebade disclosed that a syndicate who was specialise in selling human parts was arrested by the Special Anti-Kidnapping squad of the command. “The arrest was made possible after the squad received credible intelligence on the clandestine activities on them. FG should investigate NNPC depots over fuel scarcity - Kashamu

The Senator representing Ogun East in the National Assembly, Prince Buruji Kashamu, has ‎urged the Federal Government to investigate the activities of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) depots across the country. He said this during an empowerment programme of the Omo Ilu Foundation, held at Ijebu-Igbo, on Sunday, that the current fuel scarcity is artificially induced. The lawmaker who is the leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)‎ in Ogun State,explained that many of the NNPC depots sell above the the official price to marketers. Kashamu alleged that some officials of the Corporation asked independent marketers to pay the pegged price by government into a designated account and pay another difference of N30 to N35 per litre into private account or collect cash. Nigerians across the country are reacting to the massive controversy surrounding the Senate President Bukola Saraki’s purchase of luxury vehicles. Earlier today, Premium Times reported that members of the Senate and House of Representatives will receive a fleet of 400 top of the line cars, with Saraki set to receive 10 cars worth N330 million.  The fancy cars include Mercedes and Toyotas, and given that Saraki’s personal car budget is now bigger than that of most government schools, the grant shocked many Nigerians.  Saraki’s office swiftly released a statement to react to the media storm, explaining that the cars are necessary as his current fleet is old and falling apart, condemning the media for breaking the story.  “The press should avoid deliberately inciting members of the public against public officials,” the statement said.  “The Senate president and his colleagues are conscious of the economic situation in the coun...

Last Friday’s confirmation of the death sentenced passed on General overseer of the Christian Praying Assembly (CPA) Chukwuemeka Ezeugo (aka Rev. King), has been attributed to the handiwork of witches and wizards by his church members.  The members also reaffirmed their belief that Rev. Uzordima Chukwudi, a 29 year old lotto operator was arrested alongside Joseph Chiaotu, aka Ejima, 21, Anozie Chinonso, 25 and 27-year-old Chukwuma Agim, who is a prison official, in connection with the kidnap of a woman in Imo State. Speaking to journalists during the week, Chukwudi said he was studying Mechanical Engineering at Federal Polytechnic Nekede, Imo State before he dropped out in his final year.   “What led me into kidnapping was unfortunate“My girlfriend is pregnant and I have been under pressure to pay her bride price but I had no money. She told me that since she became pregnant her mother had been ostracised by her fellow women in their village. Robbers attack hospitals, beat patients, nurses

Armed robbers have attacked two private hospitals in Okitipupa, in the Okitipupa Local Government Area of Ondo State in two separate attacks.  The attacks were allegedly carried out last week Sunday and Monday by the same gang.  A source told our correspondent on Sunday (yesterday) that the robbers, who stormed the hospitals between 10pm and 11.30pm in the two days, collected undisclosed amount of money from the nurses and others at the hospitals.  According to the source, the hoodlums also collected some money from the patients on admission, while patients and nurses who had no money to give them were beaten up.  One of the victims, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said, “The hoodlums were four in number; masked, and they came to the hospitals on motorcycles.
