Nigeria Police Arrested Bariga Cult Leader In Lagos

Leader of Bariga cult group The police on Monday paraded eight suspected cultists who have been terrorizing the residents of Bariga and its environs in Lagos State, western Nigeria.  The suspects were paraded by the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, Mr Fatai Owoseni.  The group allegedly burnt a house and set a 65-year old woman ablaze in Bariga last Saturday. Among those arrested and paraded was the suspected leader of the gang, Tanimola Ogbere, also known as ‘Who Knows Tomorrow’. Others paraded are Richard Abayomi, 30, Richard Ewa,31, Kayode Dada, 25 and Afex Olajide Fagunwa, 32. Others include Nurudeen Lateef, 22, Mohammed Musa, 28, and Adamson Adelani.  The suspects were arrested after they allegedly invaded Bariga and burnt a house along with a woman. Arms deal: EFCC traces N4.7bn to account of Obanikoro’s sons

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has uncovered about N4.745 billion curious transfers made into the account of two sons of a former Minister of Defence, Mr. Musiliu Obanikoro. The sons are Babajide and Gbolahan, who are both directors of the company used in siphoning the funds. The suspicious funds were said to have been paid into the account of the ex-minister’s children by the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA). Police confirm kidnap of Delta Monarch

The Delta Police Command on Friday confirmed the kidnap of King Umukoro Josiah, Aghaza 1 of Olomoro in Isoko South Local Government Area of Delta.  The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the command, DSP Celestina Kalu confirmed the abduction of the monarch in text messages sent to newsmen in Warri.  “The Olomoro King, Aghaza 1 was kidnapped in his office in Olomoro community. “The kidnappers are heading to unknown destination with a Dark Green Rav 4 Jeep’’.  Kalu said that the police were on the trail of the abductors assuring that they would soon catch up with them.  Investigations by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) revealed that the monarch was abducted at about 7:30 am on Friday in his palace at Ekiagbodo.  Josiah ascended the ancestral stool of the Olomoro in January 2014 and he is said to be the eleventh monarch in the kingdom.  NAN reports that the abduction was barely a week the decomposed body of another monarch i...

One killed in Ekiti Police station robbery attack

There was tension in Ikole Ekiti, Friday as suspected armed robbers attacked a police station Wednesday night killing a clergyman and injuring a policeman and a medical doctor.  The attack which affected both the Ikole Area Command and the adjoining Divisional Headquarters along Ijesa Isu Road took place at about 8.00 pm.  The robbers was said to have stormed the station with the intent of breaking into the armory to steal weapons but they did not succeed in their bid to enter the armory.  Their frustration to break into the armory led to firing several gunshots into the police station which destroyed many facilities in the building.  A source told our reporter on Friday that residents of the town were still gripped with fear over the attack carried out by the hoodlums whose were said to be communicating in a language of one of the ethnic groups in the Niger Delta area.  Another source claimed that the slain Reverend mistook the robbers f...

Court orders remand of SSS operative for assaulting police officer

A Gudu Upper Area Court, Abuja, on Thursday ordered the remand of a State Security Services personnel, Yusuf John, for allegedly assaulting a police officer. Mr. John, 35, was docked on a two-count charge bordering on criminal force and assault, offences he denied committing. The judge, Umar Kagarko, ordered that the defendant be remanded in police custody till January 29, to ascertain the true condition of the victim, allegedly beaten-up by the SSS operative. The prosecutor, Augustine Urom, had told the court that Irieme Aigberadion, a police sergeant, attached to Lugbe Division, FCT Command, reported the matter at Garki Police Station on Jan.27. Police arraign professor, three others over sodomy at Kano school

Police have arraigned a professor and two other persons in Kano, in connection to alleged sexual abuse of several students at a boys’ college in the state. The attacks at Hassan Gwarzo Secondary Scollege, sparked outrage in Kano, leading to the closure of the institution. On Thursday, police arraigned the proprietor of Hassan Gwarzo Secondary School, Ibrahim Ayagi; the school principal, Muhammad Jimo, and two others before Justice Aminu Kabara of Kano High Court 5 on eight-count charges. The charges border on criminal conspiracy, abetment, negligence, failure to give information, among others. Mr. Ayagi, a professor of Economics, is standing trial on a one-count charge of “gross indecency”. The presiding judge, Aminu Kabara, adjourned the case to 29 February for further hearing. Kaduna lecturer accused of attacking El-Rufai turns self to Police

Dr. John Danfulani, a lecturer at ​the Kaduna State University, KASU, accused of verbally abusing the state government has turned himself to the police for questioning.  A source close to the lecturer told DAILY POST Friday evening that Danfulani was immediately detained. It was learnt that the lecturer was grilled for the comments attributed to him for several hours. Our correspondent also gathered that the lecturer may be charged to court next week.  It would be recalled that the Kaduna State Police Commissioner, Umar Kofar-Naisa, had ordered the Vice Chancellor of KASU, Professor Willaims Quirix, to produce Dr. Danfulani.  However, the University authorities since January 8, 2016, suspended the Political Science lecturer after issuing him a query earlier.

Police stop execution of court order on 1004 Estates

The police have disrupted the execution of a court order on the management and control of the luxurious 1004 Estates on Victoria Island, Lagos.  A company, 1004 Estates Limited, which was chased out of the estate on December 5, last year, by executives of the Home Owners and Residents Association (HORA), obtained an ex parte order last Friday from the Lagos High Court to resume the management of the estate, the biggest in the country. EFCC operative arrested by EFCC for collecting $150,000 bribe from #DasukiGate suspects

Abdulrahman Biu, an operative of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has been arrested for allegedly extorting $150,000 from some military officers.  According to Wilson Uwujaren, EFCC spokesman, Biu collected the money under the pretext of assisting the suspects who are currently being grilled by the anti-graft agency.  “The officer was arrested on Monday January 25, 2016 following intelligence report alleging that he extorted a whopping sum of $150,000 from some military officers on the pretext that he would help give them a soft landing in the ongoing investigation into the arms deal scandal,” Uwujaren said.  “Upon his arrest, a search was executed on his residence in Abuja where the following items were recovered: $20,000 cash, N500,000 cash, two police uniforms bearing his name with the ranks of deputy superintendent and assistant superintendent, police warrant card No: 27/2014 with the rank of DSP allegedly obtained from Kano cons...

Court denies Biafra's Nnamdi Kanu bail, says he is a threat to national security

The leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, on Friday was denied bail by a Federal High Court, sitting in Abuja, presided over by Justice John Tosho.  Tsoho denied Kanu’s application on the grounds that he was a threat to national security and there was a high possibility of Kanu committing the same offence and also jumping bail, owing to his dual citizenship. He ordered that Kanu be remanded in prison custody but ordered an accelerated hearing of his case.  Meanwhile, there was drama in court earlier as Kanu, who is being accused of treason, asked his lead counsel, M. Udechukwu, to step down for another lawyer, Chucks Muoma. Kanu wrote to the court, asking for a change in his representation. Reps to investigate alleged sharing of N50m,150 motorcycles to members

The House of Representatives, on Thursday mandated its Committee on Ethics and Privileges to investigate the alleged sharing of N50 million and 150 motorcycles to members by the House leadership.  This followed a point of privilege raised by Rep. Yakubu Barde (Kaduna-PDP), the Deputy Minority Whip.  The lawmaker alleged that a member, Rep. Mohammed Abubakar (Kaduna-APC) had granted an interview on a local radio station, saying that money and motorcycles were given to members.  Barde said that the issue needed to be investigated because he did not collect such money or motorcycle. Ajegunle Bad Guys cut Lagos firefighter’s ear, damage truck

No fewer than five firefighters with the Lagos State Fire Service were injured in the Ajegunle and Surulere areas of Lagos State. While an unnamed senior official had his ear cut with a broken bottle, another had a bottle smashed on his head, while three others were reportedly manhandled... A fire truck was said to have also been damaged in the melee. It was learnt that some hoodlums, who wanted to loot property in some buildings gutted by fire in the areas, resorted to attacking the firefighters to eliminate oppositions on their way.
