Over 40% of Nnamdi Azikiwe varsity staff watch pornography at work, VC alleges

The vice chancellors of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra State, Prof. Joseph Ahaneku, on Thursday said more than 40 percent of the staff of the university spend more time watching pornographic videos and other illicit films at work than doing the work for which they are employed. The VC said he was able to monitor the development in offices on campus from his own network. He said when he got the report of the trend and discovered that some people sat in their offices only to watch illicit movies during office hours, he took a decision to curb it by censoring internet services in the university from his office. “There have been a lot of abuses on facilities that, ordinarily, should aid staff in their jobs and as a result plans s are underway to remove the televisions in central offices. FRSC sacks 25 officials over corruption

The Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Boboye Oyeyemi, says a massive self-cleansing to rid the corps of corrupt officials is ongoing. Mr. Oyeyemi, who made the disclosure in Ibadan on Thursday, said 25 officials of the Corps had just been relieved of their jobs in Abuja. He said this was done after various allegations of corruption were established against them. The FRSC boss was fielding questions from reporters at the 2017 Press Week of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Oyo State Council. He delivered a lecture entitled, “Road Safety in Nigeria: Challenges and Prospects” at the event. Rice importation has dropped by 95%- Ogbeh

The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Chief Audu Ogbeh, on Thursday said that the importation of rice into the country has dropped by 95 per cent in the last two years. Ogbeh disclosed this in Abuja at the first Annual NACCIMA-NIRSAL Agribusiness and Policy Linkage Conference, which has “Implementing the Agriculture Component of the Economic Recovery Growth Plan ’ as its theme. The conference was organised by the Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture in collaboration with the Nigeria Incentive-Based Risk Sharing system for Agricultural Lending. The minister said the country has made a lot of success in terms of stopping rice importation adding that this had led to creation of more jobs for the people. Saraki, Shettima tackles Jonathan, say ex-President was Nigeria’s weakest

Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, has said former President Goodluck Jonathan, was not ready for the presidency job when fate bestowed on him the leadership of the country. On his part, Borno State Governor, Kashim Shettima, while narrating his ordeal during the last regime, said the ex-president sought to remove him as governor but was advised against it by some of his aides. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’s 10th prosecution witness, Mr. David Ikpe, told the Federal High Court in Abuja on Thursday that the Office of the National Security Adviser in May 2014 paid a cousin to former President Goodluck Jonathan, Mr. Robert Azibaola, the sum of $40m from the $1.2bn approved by the ex-President. The anti-graft agency alleged that the former president authorised the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation to release the sum of $1.2bn to the ONSA for “urgent national security project.” Azibaola, his wife, Stella, and their firm, One Plus Holdings Nigeria Limited, are being prosecuted by the EFCC on seven counts of money laundering before the court. The EFCC alleged in the seven counts that the three defendants unlawfully received $40m from the then NSA, Sambo Dasuki, allegations which they denied. A Nigerian returnee from Libya has spoken of how 20 Nigerian girls were sold off as slaves in Libya. He also gave a chilling account of how he and others were fleeced and transported to Libya with a promise of better life in Europe, only to land in penury and end up in jail in the north African country. Many of the returnees, who are camped in Benin-City, the Edo State capital, look skinny and exhausted. Some of the women are carrying babies, whose fathers are not known. Alex Otoide is one of the 168 Nigerians evacuated from the north African country, and are currently being rehabilitated by Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki. The governor has promised to train them in skills required to reintegrate them back into the society. The Chief Executive Officer of an oil and gas company, Olukunle Owolabi, was on Tuesday arraigned before a Lagos Magistrate’s Court, sitting at Igbosere, for allegedly using the N10m mistakenly deposited into his bank account. Owolabi, who resides in Ogudu GRA, Lagos, is facing a 1-count charge of fraud preferred against him by the Police. The defendant, 53, alongside his company, was charged before Magistrate F. O. Botoku. The prosecutor, Chinedu Njoku, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on April 5. The offence, he said is punishable under section 285 (5a) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015. Njoku said the incident occurred at 2, Tinubu Street, Lagos Island. According to him, at about 11a.m the defendant fraudulently converted N10 million belonging to a bank, which was deposited into his account by Telecorev Nigeria Limited on March 31. Oil Marketers Threaten Service Withdrawal In Lagos, Ogun

The Independent Petroleum Markers Association of Nigeria, Lagos State chapter, has accused the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation of undersupplying its members with Premium Motor Spirit. It said if the situation persists, its members in Lagos State and parts of Ogun State may be forced to shut their filling stations by December 11. In a statement on Thursday signed its chairman, Alhaji Alanamu Balogun, vice chairman, Pastor Gbenga Ilupeju, and secretary, Prince Kunle Oyenuga, IPMAN noted that no fewer than 900 filling stations will be shut down in Lagos. The association particularly complained of a shortage of product supply to Ejigbo satellite depot, which, it said, serves more than 900 filling stations in Lagos. IPMAN alleged that the NNPC was not only undersupplying its members with PMS, it was also frustrating them by reneging on the bulk purchase agreement it signed with its members to supply the product to them at N133.28k per litre. ...

Nigeria's minister of finance, Kemi Adeosun has said that the embattled former boss of Presidential Task Force on Pension Reform Team, Abdulrasheed Maina last received salary as a civil servant in February, 2013, Daily Trust reports. We gathered that Adeosun testifying before a House of Representatives panel investigating Maina's reinstatement told committee members that Maina’s name was not in the federal government’s pay roll. The Accountant General of the Federation, Ahmed Idris, similarly corroborated Adeosun's position saying:  "With respect to salary, from my records, I'm saying this categorical that Maina received the last salary in Feb, 2013. Odion Ighalo to build orphanage in Edo

Super Eagles player, Odion Ighalo, has promised to build an orphanage in Edo State as a means of giving back to the people of his state. Ighalo, a striker with Changchun Yatai Football Club in China, gave the promise in Benin on Wednesday when he paid a courtesy visit on the Deputy Governor of the state, Philip Shaibu, in his office. He appealed to the Edo State Government to provide him with land in order to fulfill his promise. He said the orphanage would have a football pitch to enable football lovers train. ​Ex-Minister of Foreign affairs, Ambassador Oluyemi Adeniji is dead. He died in London at the weekend at the age of 83. National President of the Association of Retired Career Ambassadors of Nigeria (ARCAN) Amb. Dapo Fafowora, who broke the news, said : “I have received with sadness, the news of the death of Amb. Olu Adeniji in London last Sunday. “Amb. Adeniji was an iconic figure in the foreign service rising to the position of a permanent secretary and later foreign minister.” Adeniji was a great diplomat before his death, he was the United Nations Secretary-General’s Special Representative for the United Nations Mission in the Central African Republic (MINURCA) and Nigerian Ambassador to France for five years.
